Our Favourite Places to Visit in South Devon

Shaldon

Shaldon
Our local picture-postcard village of Shaldon is a small yet bustling centre of independent shops and cafés. It boasts an impressive range of events, including Shaldon Water Carnival (first Saturday in August) and the Shaldon 1785 Day & Craft Market. You'll also find Shaldon Zoo and a genuine smugglers' tunnel leading to Ness Beach.

Teignmouth

Teignmouth
Just over the bridge from Shaldon lies the quintessential seaside town of Teignmouth. Have fun on the beach, grab an ice cream, and maybe even enjoy some delicious fish and chips. Why not take a relaxing stroll down the promenade?

Torquay

Torquay
A traditional and thriving seaside town on the English Riviera, Torquay's iconic palm trees provide the backdrop to miles of sandy beaches and the busy harbourside and marina. You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to food and drink, thanks to the fabulous choice of continental style eateries and bars.

Brixham

Brixham
This busy fishing port has some of the freshest and most delicious seafood on its menu thanks to the famous Fish Market. You could even take a ferry ride across from Torquay to arrive in style and marvel at Torbay's stunning coastline along the way. Don't forget to visit Berry Head Country Park, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Totnes

Totnes
If you're lucky, the Welcome to Totnes sign will tell you that this wonderful little town is twinned with Narnia. You could be forgiven for believing it when you soak up Totnes's Bohemian vibes as you wander its long, winding streets, each lined with independent shops, eateries, and other curiosities.

Exeter

Exeter
It's a Capital City! Well, of Devon, at least. But this compact city really does pack a punch and is frequently given top ratings for its shopping, eating, and cultural offerings. We'd recommend a whole day to explore the bustling High Street, Princesshay Shopping Centre, Cathedral Yard, Northenhay Gardens, and The Quayside - don't forget the famous Gandhi Street.

Plymouth

Plymouth
Britain's Ocean City is a little further afield, but is well worth the visit even if just for the National Marine Aquarium. Also take time to explore Plymouth Hoe, where the famous Smeaton Tower is located. Or why not take a day boat trip or delve into a world of shopping? It is the largest shopping hub (bar Bristol) in the South West, after all.

Dawlish Warren

Dawlish Warren
At the mouth of the Exe Estuary, Dawlish Warren is a very popular family resort area set along a long, sandy beach. Traditional seaside attractions, eateries, amusements, and a golf course will keep the whole family entertained.

Exmouth

Exmouth
The gateway to the Jurassic Coast, Exmouth's impressive sandy beach gives it the deserved title of the regional hub for water sports. Kitesurfing, kayaking, and windsurfing are the most popular, but you can practice almost any water sport here.

Dartmouth

Dartmouth
Picturesque Dartmouth sits proudly at the mouth of the glistening River Dart. Take a stroll down one of the winding lanes of quirky shops, stroll leisurely to Dartmouth Castle, or even take the ferry across for a stream train ride from Kingswear on the other side of the river.

Kingsbridge

Kingsbridge
The hustle and bustle of a traditional English market town situated within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Kingsbridge is a popular destination for walking and sailing throughout the year. Sample some local wines in one of the town's many pubs and restaurants.

Salcombe

Salcombe
A shopper's paradise and a food lover's haven! Salcombe is also surrounded by clear blue waters, golden beaches, and rolling green hills - the essence of beautiful Devon!
